What makes a Lugia card expensive
With Lugia, old cards lead by a wide margin: Crystal Lugia from Aquapolis, the holo Lugia from Neo Genesis in 2000 and Lugia ex from Unseen Forces. Among modern cards, the full art of Lugia EX from Plasma Storm numbered 134, the Lugia from Call of Legends in 2011, including its shiny version SL7, the alternate art of Lugia V from Silver Tempest and Lugia GX from Lost Thunder lead the way.
As with every classic, the trend price of an old Lugia card mixes all conditions, and graded copies cost many times more.
Why old Lugia cards only show a guide price
For cards released before 2011, the trend price mixes copies in every condition: a played card from 2003 and a near-perfect one count toward the same number. Graded copies are on a different level altogether: they trade at auction, often for many times the trend price. So for a vintage Lugia, treat the table as a starting point and look at sold copies in the same condition. Record sales from auction houses, with date and grade, are collected in our magazine.
How to read the Cardmarket trend price
Cardmarket publishes a trend price for every card product, calculated from recent sales on the marketplace. It covers all languages and conditions, because the price guide does not split single cards by language, and it includes graded copies. The 30-day average next to it smooths out single spikes: when both numbers sit close together, the market is calm; when they drift apart, a few sales are moving the trend. For a card in your own collection, the price of copies in the same language and condition is what counts, and the PSA, Beckett or CGC grade can multiply it.
The list covers the German and English sets in our card database. Each card is matched to its Cardmarket product page by name and set, the top cards also by their attacks; special versions of the same card with a product of their own, such as stamped promos, do not count separately. Every card whose version matches exactly one product page and that has a trend price is included, for Lugia40 of 40.
How to spot the valuable version
Many Pokémon appear several times in the same set: as a regular card, a full art, an alternate art or a Special Illustration Rare. The card number tells them apart. A number above the set size, such as 199/165, marks a secret rare outside the main set; our set lists show the rarity next to every number, so you can check a card in seconds. The set symbol and the year in the bottom corner tell you which printing you hold, and that decides which line of the table applies to your card.
Every Lugia card at a glance
Our card database lists every English Pokémon set with its full card list, rarity and illustrator; the card search finds every Lugia card by name in six languages. More release previews and record sales are in our magazine.
